Strategic development

As project leader for the global FY23 and FY24 IKEA Sustainability and Climate reports, and member of the CSRD transition team, I’ve onboarded reporting stakeholders on EU, ESRS requirements, reworking as-is formats to meet future reporting standards and aligning across strategies, sub-strategies, roadmaps and actions.

At IKEA Social Entrepreneurship, I worked on the five-year strategy, impact investment portfolio, capacity-building accelerator programmes and responsible sourcing initiatives; advocating for social entrepreneurship and highlighting social impact outcomes in the circular economy, renewable materials and regenerative agriculture sectors.

Grants and fundraising

I’ve written successful grant applications for Creative Victoria, Film Victoria, the City of Melbourne, Australia Council, the Australian Communications and Media Authority and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; representing Australian creatives in Australia and internationally.

I’ve devised, pitched and produced fundraising campaigns for NGOs like WWF, The Wilderness Society, Caritas, Bush Heritage Australia and St Vincent de Paul, researching and identifying impacts, risks and opportunities. I’ve covered topics from education to water security, analysing data to test variables, and interviewing CEOs, field-workers and beneficiaries.

Social entrepreneurship

At IKEA Social Entrepreneurship, I developed impact investment and programme communication together with partners like Ocean Conservancy, Yunus Social Business, Saahas Zero Waste and NESsT, raising awareness and securing ongoing funding.

I wrote and produced the FY22 and FY23 Annual Reviews, digging into social entrepreneurship case studies and reporting on action, research, impact and learning in areas like secondary plastics sourcing, informal waste work and workplace integration.

Partnerships and engagement

Leveraging partnerships with reputable, high-profile, expert organisations, I’ve prepared briefs for engagements at the EU, OECD, WEF, One Young World and Ellen MacArthur Foundation, as well as key topic documents for attendees at COP and Climate Week.

As the Digital Editor & Marketing Manager for Quarterly Essay and Australian Foreign Affairs – Australia’s two most esteemed journals of political, intellectual and cultural opinion – I managed partnerships with organisations like the Australia Institute, Australian National University and the Climate Council.

Marketing and communication

A long-time communicator, I’ve produced long and short form copy, brand and tov style guides, corporate governance, change management and standard operating procedures, content marketing, outdoor and online campaigns, and media relations for business, not-for-profit and arts organisations.

Informed by data, primary and secondary sources, I’ve written complex reports, researching and synthesising information to create clear and compelling narratives. I often work closely with designers developing content hierarchies, layout and visual communication.

Digital editor and UX writer

Responsible for publishing direct-to-web copy and campaigns, enewsletters and social media posts for high-calibre brands and publications, I’ve engaged audiences, growing lists, advocates and influence in Australia’s media and publishing landscape, as well as among key commentators.

Having worked with many CMS, UX and IA digital matrices and with multi-disciplinary teams, I’m accustomed to agile methodology and digital first, mobile optimised, human-centred design, and writing copy that complements UX specs and visual design systems.

Publishing and creative writing

I self-published my first novel in 2021, commissioning the striking cover artwork from the Berlin-based, Lebanese illustrator and free jazz musician, Mazen Kerbaj – one of the early readers supportive of the manuscript. I managed the project production, and publicity, sales and logistics.

After two launch events in Sydney and Melbourne, By Chance the Future was stocked in independent bookstores in capital cities across Australia. I was also interviewed on live radio on Melbourne radio stations 3RRR and 3CR.

Interviews and talks

I regularly conduct interviews for case studies, podcast recording or to camera, preparing talent and providing pre-production briefing. I engage with intelligence and empathy based on background research, knowing not just the right question to ask, but when it’s time to listen.

I’ve delivered seminars in writing for exhibition, and writing for the web at RMIT, presented concepts and pitched for new business, delivered staff training, and worked as a speechwriter. In 2018 I gave a public talk on philosophy at MPavilion and in 2019 started a club for London Review of Books enthusiasts.

Features and commissioning

I’ve written features, newsletters and brochure copy on travel, lifestyle, fashion, art and culture. Whether restaurant reviews, style guides, what’s on or where to go, I have the contacts, keen eye and ability to capture the essence of experience and the context in which we live and how we live it.

Developing relationships with contributors far and wide, I’ve also commissioned features, videos and podcasts and features on topics including Voodoo in Benin, Baghdad Karaoke, the Eat Streets of Kuala Lumpur, the Maldhari of Gujarat, Surfing in Yemen, and Skiing Morocco.

Event management and front of house

I’ve worked with the following festivals and organisations coordinating events and in front-of-house and volunteer management, working directly with talent and audiences, and gaining insights into human behaviour: Good Food Month Sydney, Night Noodle Markets Sydney, Melbourne International Film Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, The Wheeler Centre for writing books and ideas, L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, MONA FOMA, Melbourne Writers Festival, and AWME – the Australasian World Music Expo.

Art galleries and institutions

At Carriageworks Sydney – a large contemporary multi-arts centre with an ambitious, risk-taking, artist-led program – I developed and delivered digital content, and communications for The National, an exhibition spanning the AGNSW, Carriageworks and MCA.

I helped facilitate the merger of Dianne Tanzer Gallery and Helen Gory Galerie, and managed the new gallery: This Is No Fantasy, showing monthly exhibitions in a high-traffic commercial space, and representing artists in national and international exhibition, including significant shows at Art Basel Hong Kong and Volta New York.

Not-for-profit arts organisation founder

I set up an incorporated association, co-founding Chapter House Lane – a public art space in Melbourne. I established ongoing sponsorship and pro bono relationships, ran a crowdfunding campaign and was granted funding from local and state government.

Developing a strong brand and media profile, we attracted artists and audiences to the rejuvenated inner-city space. We hosted 11 exhibitions and opening events each year and I developed an arts writing practice that extended beyond our exhibitors and continues today.
